A non-invasive, complementary, manual therapy consisting of mobilization and manipulation of the joints to relieve restrictions and increase range of motion. In conjugation with traditional therapies, it can be used to reduce musculoskeletal and neurological dysfunction and relieve pain. Soft tissue work, such as massage and stretching techniques are often incorporated into treatment as well. VSMT should only be performed by those qualified through properly accredited institutions.
At your first visit, a thorough history will be taken about your animal, including a full medical history, lifestyle, and your goals for treatment. Next, a hands-on physical examination, including gait analysis and a complete neurological examination, will be performed. Then, soft tissue work and mobilization or adjustments may be performed. Stretches and massage techniques may be provided for at home continued care. First visits typically run from 45-60 minutes. Subsequent visits will typically run 10-15 minutes for canines and 20-30 minutes for equines in length with the frequency recommended depending on goals and client availability.
